Opera Studio

The University of Minnesota Duluth Opera Studio serves qualified singers, actors, and students interested in contributing backstage. You do not need to be a music major to enroll. Opera Studio presents two major performances each year – an opera scenes program and a full-length opera. Performances are done in English or the original language with supertitles. Scenes and operas are chosen to fit students' abilities with an emphasis on developing stage and acting skills.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, Opera Studio will present Kurt Weill’s Street Scene (November) as well as a full program of staged opera and musical theater scenes (April). If you are interested in participating, please contact Lora Dixon for more information.

Past productions have included standard classical and more adventurous contemporary repertoire including operas such as Die FledermausLes Contes du Hoffman, and The Magic Flute.
