Counseling Services
Feelings such as anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, or tension are a normal part of being human and can affect anyone. Sometimes these feelings are temporary and can be eased by rest, relaxation, exercise, good nutrition and the support of trusted friends. At other times, stressors, relationships or past family experiences cannot be managed so easily and become overwhelming. If this happens, and you find it hard to function, you may want to seek professional help.

Residence Life
If you live on campus and need some support in your community, visit with your RA. Their job is to work in partnership with students living on campus to foster a healthy community.
Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution
One of the TOP issues students face is how to navigate roommate conflicts.
- ON CAMPUS students - Despite residents’ or roommates' best efforts, sometimes roommates are just not compatible for a multitude of reasons. When these moments of conflict and/or non-compatibility arise, UMD Housing & Residence Life offers all residents options on how to resolve the conflicts/concerns. Connect with either your Resident Advisor (RA), Resident Director, or Assistant Director of Housing.
- OFF CAMPUS students, seek out Conflict Coaching options. Facilitators are Student Life professionals.
- Want or need more? Student complaints and grievances
Student Life & Sustainability offices
The Student Life office offers Champ's Cupboard for students to stock up on grocery and personal items. In addition, Champ’s Closet serves the needs of UMD students who need professional business attire for internship and job interviews. The Sustainability office offers a FREE STORE to students. Academic Assistance
Academic Writing and Learning Center
Located on the second floor of the Martin Library, the AWLC houses the Tutoring Center and the Writers' Workshop, where students can receive tutoring for many of their courses, assistance with their writing assignments, and other forms of course support. In addition, many tutors are happy to assist students with test-taking and note-taking strategies, and tutor mentors (2nd level of tutoring certification) are also trained in time management and test anxiety. Learn new strategies through their course offerings: z.umn.edu/sspcoursehandout. Some courses are only for 5 weeks!
Students are welcome to make an appointment with any of our tutors or writing consultants, and we also encourage students to email [email protected] so the Tutoring Center coordinators can recommend specific tutors to assist with specific skills.

Disability Resources assists students with documented disabilities to determine reasonable accommodations and services such as extra time for exams, access to audiobooks, note takers, etc.
