Chamber Singers
Chamber Singers is an auditioned chamber ensemble selected from the membership of University Singers. Members of the Chamber Singers explore the rich variety of music for small ensembles, with an emphasis on non-conducted or self-conducted performances. Chamber Singers is open to students of all majors and minors.
Concert Chorale
Concert Chorale is a non-auditioned choir dedicated to the rehearsal and performance of music from a variety of cultures, styles, and historical periods. Concert Chorale typically performs twice each semester in the Weber Music Hall. Comprising of both music majors and non-music majors alike, Concert Chorale welcomes any interested student on campus.
Jazz Ensembles
UMD Jazz offers several Jazz Combos that are taken for credit. These groups place emphasis on developing small group skills including improvisation and composition by preparing and performing standard and original compositions.
Opera Studio
The University of Minnesota Duluth Opera Studio, serves the undergraduate vocal studies majors and other qualified singers.
Orchestras
Our students are given the opportunity to perform in chamber ensembles, master classes, weekly student recitals, musicals, chamber orchestra, symphony orchestra and a variety of other string ensembles.
Percussion
The UMD Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Henry Eichman, performs a wide variety of literature including historically significant works; contemporary trends in percussion ensemble literature; world music; elements of popular music; and brand new works for percussion.
Symphonic Wind Ensemble & Concert Band
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is a select unit of approximately 50 music and non-music majors and is one of the premier ensembles in the UMD Department of Music. The ensemble regularly performs new compositions for the wind medium and performs the most outstanding literature currently available.
The Concert Band is open to all UMD students wishing to continue in music-making throughout their collegiate years. The band is open to all students regardless of major. Without demanding a significant obligation in a student’s schedule, Concert Band members meet three times a week and perform two formal concerts each semester.
University Singers
This choir is the premier large ensemble in the UMD choral program and is open to students of any major, by audition. University Singers maintains an active performance schedule and incorporates annual concert traditions.
Vocal Jazz
Composed of students of varying majors and musical backgrounds, UMD vocal jazz ensembles Lake Effect, Aurora, and Chill Factor perform two sold out solo concerts each year and join the UMD Choirs on their Sounds of the Season and Honors festival concerts.
Bulldog Marching Band
The UMD Bulldog Marching Band performs at all UMD home football games, as well as a number of other campus and community events.
Bulldog Pep Band
The UMD Bulldog Pep Band performs at all UMD home hockey games, as well as a number of other campus and community events.
