CAHSS Internal Grants

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) provides annual grant opportunities to support development and excellence. These grants are administered by specialized committees that solicit applications and provide formal recommendations to the Dean. 

Chancellor Small Grants, Collegiate Fee Grants, Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) Grants and Teaching and Learning Grants are awarded each semester. 

  • Chancellor Small Grants - up to $1,000

    • The Chancellor's Faculty Small Grant Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) provides funding twice a year (in the fall and spring) to support tenured, tenure-track, and term faculty appointed at least 35% time for two semesters in their teaching, research, or service.

  • Collegiate Fees and Resources Grants 

    • Campus/collegiate fees are campus- and college-wide fees that may be assessed to all students enrolled on a campus or in a college for goods and services that directly benefit students but that are not part of actual classroom instruction. Allowable goods and services include advising, career services, computer labs, special equipment, orientation activities, and other goods or activities intended to enhance the student experience outside of actual classroom instruction.

      • up to $2,500 available for student awards, 

      • up to $5,000 for faculty awards, 
      • up to $7,500 departmental awards, and the occasional $10,000 award for interdisciplinary awards
      • (Each department also receives $4,000 in Collegiate Fees topped off annually. This is separate from the Collegiate Fees and Resources grant process.)
  • Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Grants - Up to $500
  • Teaching and Learning Grants  - Up to $500

Imagine Grants are administered directly through the Dean’s Office. Grants are awarded in the spring of each year, according to the program’s established guidelines, and become effective July 1st of the next fiscal year.

For Students

CAHSS Collegiate Fee Grant Program

The Collegiate Fees and Resources Committee welcomes applications for the Grant Program from CAHSS students, faculty and departments. This grant supports technology projects that directly benefit students.

Applications will be accepted at any time during the semester. The Collegiate Fees and Resource Committee typical will review applications once per semester.  Funding of this grant program comes from the CAHSS Collegiate Fees.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial awards to full-time undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty mentor.
