A journalism degree offers an exciting education that blends theoretical foundations with practical application. Our program emphasizes community engagement and global competence where students gain a toolbox of skills and a critical understanding of mass media.
We prepare students to engage with diverse, interesting people, and report on significant events in multiple storytelling formats. Students also learn journalism history, the ethics and laws that guide the profession, and the key role journalism plays in our democracy.
Our program balances hands-on learning with critical thinking, teaching students how to create content, analyze information, and tell compelling stories.
These skills are valuable not just in journalism, but in many other fields as well. This degree provides the flexibility required in a rapidly evolving professional world.
Journalism major
The B.A. in Journalism requires students to complete a core dedicated to the craft of journalism, critical inquiry and application. Students are then asked to select additional elective credits to enhance their areas of expertise within the major and expand on how they may apply journalism in the future. These skills are further honed through an application in a professional media setting.
Journalism minor
The Journalism minor provides a foundation in reporting and editing skills for students interested in jobs requiring strong writing and copy editing skills.
