Simply by virtue of declaring a History major you become eligible for a number of scholarships offered by the History Department and by the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Every year the History Department at UMD awards over $20,000 in scholarships to History majors. Below is a list of scholarships available to History majors at UMD. There is no application for these awards – every single History major is automatically considered for every scholarship!
The Shogren-Meyer Scholars award is given to one History major each year.
The UMD Washburn Memorial Scholarship supports 2 UMD History majors each year.
The JL Washburn Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one UMD History major of Junior standing each year.
The Maude Linquist Scholarship provides financial aid to one UMD History major every year.
The Bathory/Lane Reaching Higher Scholarship is given one UMD History major of Junior or Senior standing every year.
The History Program Experiential Learning Fund is available to support student opportunities for History majors outside of the traditional classroom, from internships to study abroad and undergraduate research. The amount and number of awards varies on an annual basis.
