Learning Outcomes

The Department of Philosophy is committed to pursuing seven primary learning outcomes in its instruction of students. Those outcomes are:

  1. Demonstrate competence and literacy in the core problems of Philosophy and its traditions.
  2. Demonstrate advanced written communication and information literacy skills especially as it concerns philosophical issues.
  3. Demonstrate advanced verbal communication and information literacy skills especially as it concerns philosophical issues.
  4. Think critically and creatively in seeking solutions to practical and theoretical problems.
  5. Reflect fair-mindedly and critically about issues pertaining to human diversity in the context of its historical background.
  6. Bring analytical and critical thinking skills to the solution of social problems.
  7. Use ethical reasoning to make informed and principled choices.
