Christopher Fettig is an Instructor of Choral Music at the University of Minnesota Duluth where he conducts the UMD Concert Chorale, Chamber Choir, and vocal jazz ensemble Chill Factor, and teaches voice lessons and ear training. 

After receiving the Outstanding Young Choral Director award from the American Choral  Directors Association of Minnesota in 1991, he served two years as the Northwest District Chair.  In 1999 Mr. Fettig was named Teacher of the Year for ISD 31, Bemidji, MN, and was selected as one of eight Honor Roll Teachers in the Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program. In 2000 he was elected Regional Representative for the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association, region VII VIII AA. Mr. Fettig was named Choral Director Of The Year by the American Choral Director’s  Association of Minnesota in 2007. In 2010 he was guest conductor of the ACDA-MN State 7-8  TTB Honor Choir. He was inducted into the East Grand Forks Senior High School Hall Of  Fame for fine arts in 2012. In 2022 he was named Featured Alumnus Of The Bemidji Choir by the Bemidji State University Alumni Association.  

As the Director of Choirs at Bemidji High School, Bemidji, MN his A Cappella Choir toured annually for 36 years, performing in venues including The National Cathedral,  Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall, N.Y.C. The Bemidji High School A Cappella Choir performed under Mr. Fettig’s direction on seven separate occasions at State ACDA and MMEA  conventions. They performed four times at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Mid Winter Clinic in 1992, 2003, 2016, and 2023. They performed at the American Choral Director’s  Association of Minnesota Fall Convention in 1992, 2002, and 2018. In addition to these performances, the choir was featured in 1997 at the Central Division Music Educators National  Conference in Peoria, Illinois and they performed twice at the American Choral Director’s  Association North Central Division Convention; first in 2000 in Madison, WI, and then in 2010 at  Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, MN. The choir performed two other times on stage at Orchestra  Hall, first in 1993 at the Northstar Choral Festival and again in 2007 at the Choral Finale. In  2009, under Mr. Fettig’s direction, the BHS Madrigal Choir served as Artists In Residence for the  Aspen Music Festival And School in Aspen, CO. In 2018, the Bemidji High School music program was featured as a Minnesota “Star Program” in the ACDA–MN Star of the North publication.  

In 1995, Mr. Fettig introduced Show Choir to the Bemidji area and directed and arranged music for Bemidji High Schools award-winning show choir Vocalmotive. Under his direction,  Vocalmotive won numerous Grand Champion awards along with caption awards for best vocals,  choreography, and instrumental combo. Mr. Fettig’s groups been recognized for their innovative programming and creative themes. In the summer of 2006 he started the Bemidji Area Summer  Show Choir Camp, which hosted over one hundred 5th – 8th grade students from around the region each year.  

Along with his work at the high school, Mr. Fettig was very active with music in the Bemidji community. He was the conductor of the Bemidji Chorale for five years. He was co-founder and director of the Bemidji Boychoir. Mr. Fettig also co-founded and served as president of Show 

Choirs Of Bemidji, Inc. where he was instrumental in laying the groundwork for innovative programs to introduce kids to choral music and develop their vocal skills through parallel programming with the Bemidji School District. In 2008, Bemidji Leads recognized this organization for its outstanding stewardship in the community.  

Mr. Fettig holds a BS in Vocal Music Education from Bemidji State University and an  MA degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Illinois. He is a member of ACDA and  MMEA.
