The keynote speaker for the Summit will be Rosa Clemente, community organizer, indie journalist, and hip-hop activist. She will speak at 5 pm in UMD's Kirby Ballroom.
Summit on Equity, Race, and Multiculturalism
Over 40 workshops will be presented at the 2016 Summit on Equity, Diversity, and Multiculturalism: Connecting Through Dialogue, on Wed., Feb. 24 from 8 am–6 pm in the Kirby Student Center and other UMD locations. Rosa Clemente, community organizer, indie journalist, and hip-hop activist, will be the keynote speaker.
UMD senior Brian Robertson, who works in the Career Services office, is one of several UMD students who present student-focused workshops. This year, Brian's presentation will be on which questions are legal and which ones aren't in a job interview setting. Students will have the opportunity to role play, and they'll get tips on how to answer if they are asked awkward questions.
This is the third year Brian has presented workshops for career services, and he is a strong advocate for the Summit. "It's a great learning environment for everyone," he said. "The world is getting more diverse, and we all need to learn how problem solve and work along side people from all kinds of cultures and backgrounds." Brian stressed that the sessions are relaxed. "It's a fun day, and the organizers make everyone feel welcome."
About Rosa Clemente
The keynote speaker for the Summit is Rosa Clemente, an activist who promotes political engagement for youth of color. She ran for vice president of the Green Party in 2008, she has worked with high profile celebrities for change within the Hip Hop community, and she has worked as a journalist. Rosa will share her story of adversity and success as she catapulted into the world of politics as a black woman looking for change. At 43-years-old Rosa pushes for the rights of the underrepresented. Rosa has received scholarships and grants and has been the subject of articles in international publications, including The New York Times and The Huffington Post.

The event is open to the public. Registration is required. See the schedule. Check-in begins at 7:45 am with a welcome at 8 am. Concurrent sessions will be held at 8:30 am, 9:45 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:30 pm. The keynote address begins at 5pm.
Three registration levels are available ($20, $10, $0). Attendees can pay within their means to further CERE's mission to create an equitable campus community for people of all racial, ethnic, and intersecting identities.
