ELWS Alum Earns Doctoral Degree in Renaissance Literature

ELWS alumni, Scott Koski, recently earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Renaissance Literature from St. John’s University.

Congratulations to Scott Koski, who recently earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Renaissance Literature from St. John’s University.  A native Minnesotan, Scott Koski received both his BA and MA in English from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

While Koski’s interests also include Romantic poetry and poststructural theory, his main focus is in early modern studies.Though a passion for Shakespeare has been with him since an early age, his scholarly efforts have focused less on the Bard and more on the writers whose careers were eclipsed over time by Shakespeare’s legend.

His dissertation, entitled “Hidden in Detail: Triangulating Shakespeare Through Sixteenth-Century Prose Pamphlets,” explores the literary landscape of late 16th century London and how writers of this era helped establish what it meant to be a professional author in a burgeoning print marketplace.

Koski currently serves as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University, teaching several sections of their introductory English course “Literature in a Global Context.” He plans to continue teaching in and around NYC, and looks to publish his work in Romanticism, literary theory, and of course, early modern prose. For more information about Koski and his work, read his article, "Remixing Homer on the Post Colonial Frontier of Serenity" and check out his LinkedIn page.
