Jane Lackey - Visual Culture Lecture Series guest

Jane Lackey is our first visiting artist of the semester, she will present Tuesday, September 29th at 6pm in Montague 70.

Jane Lackey’s art has long engaged cross-disciplinary intersections of materials and process as active thinking. In her studio practice, conceptual ideas are slowly traced, entwined and materialized in drawings, sculpture and installations. Illusive aspects of movement, communication and our physical selves circulate in a narrative of mapped systems. Intimate and hand held or large scale and ambulatory, these works evoke self-reflection, scrutiny, comparison and interaction. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally including the Wellcome Trust, London; I Space, Chicago; Exit Art, NYC and Tang Museum, NY. She has received grants from Artist Trust, Seattle, the NEA and the Illinois Arts Council. Artist residencies include the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France and a 5 month JUSFC/NEA Creative Artist Exchange Fellowship in Japan during 2011. Lackey earned her BFA from California College of the Arts and MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.  Head of the Fiber Department at first Kansas City Art Institute and then Artist-in-Residence at Cranbrook Academy of Art, she is currently an independent artist and educator based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her work is included in many private, public and museum collections.
