Shakespeare's First Folio

October 4, 2016 – October 26, 2016

A Unique Stop
The Folger Shakespeare Library, in partnership with Cincinnati Museum Center and the American Library Association, is touring a First Folio of Shakespeare in 2016 to all 50 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico. The University of Minnesota Duluth alongside generous partners has the fortunate opportunity to host this rare event. Special thanks to the English Department and to the Kathryn A. Martin Library at UMD for bringing this exciting event at the Tweed Museum of Art, on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth.

First Folio: Background
The First Folio was printed in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death. The Folio is composed of over thirty of his most famous plays, including Julius Caesar and Macbeth. The Folger Shakespeare Library holds the world's largest collection of First Folios, and hosts remarkable events, special performances, and exclusive showcases. Visitors will view the Folio as well as interpretive exhibitions, theatrical performances, and educational initiatives.

Researchers believe that 750 or fewer copies of the First Folio were printed; 233 survive today, of which 82 are in the Folger collection. The Folger Library host many events and has more information available regarding Shakespeare's First Folio.
