Marcus McConico’s impressive presence and versatile range warrants rave reviews in performed signature roles such as Il Duca in Rigoletto, Fenton in Falstaff, Alfredo in La Traviata, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Ruggiero in La Rondine, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Calaf in Turandot, and the title roles in Faust and Roméo in Roméo et Juliette. Marcus has also had success as Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, the title role of Albert Herring, and Don José in La tragédie de Carmen.
Mr. McConico has appeared with numerous opera companies and symphonies throughout the U.S. including Austin Lyric Opera, Opera Columbus, Augusta Opera, Baltimore Opera, Opera Roanoke, Asheville Lyric Opera, Knoxville Opera, Virginia Opera, Opera Carolina, DuPage Opera Theatre, Duluth Festival Opera, Skylark Opera, Lyric Opera of the North, Des Moines Metro Opera, Central City Opera, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra. A member of the American Tenors from 20042012, Marcus appeared with symphonies across the U.S. as well as a nationwide tour with Live on Stage for the 2011-2012 season. International credits include performances in Izmir, Ankara, Marmaris, and Yalikavak, Turkey, Palermo, Italy, Tel Aviv, Israel, and Tatuí, Brazil.
Marcus was selected to co-present a program titled “Caruso and Lanza: A Centennial Tribute Lecture Recital,” at the International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT) conference in Vienna, Austria in August 2022.
Concert and oratorio work for Mr. McConico as tenor soloist includes the Turkish oratorio Yunus Emre, Händel’s Messiah, Uriel in Haydn’s The Creation, Bach’s B Minor Mass, Bach’s Matthäus-Passion, Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s Chorale Fantasie, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Dave Brubeck’s Christmas Cantata La Fiesta de la Posada, Karl Jenkin’s The Armed Man, Severin Behnen’s Messiah, Brahms’ Liebeslieder-Walzer, Coleridge-Taylor’s Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast, and Vaughan-Williams Mass in G minor.
Dr. McConico received his DMA in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota School of Music on a Harvey Berneking Fellowship, an MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Tennessee, and a BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Dr. McConico has been an Adjunct Instructor of Voice at the University of Minnesota Duluth since 2010. In February 2015 Marcus released his first full-length album, Mio Cuore Italiano, A Collection of Italian and Neapolitan Songs, available through CDBaby.com and iTunes. As an extension to his Doctoral Dissertation, Marcus, with the assistance of his wife and colleague Rachel Inselman, has performed “Neapolitan Songs: Popular Songs in the Neapolitan Language,” a lecture recital focused on an authentic pronunciation of Neapolitan poetry in song at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Duluth.
