Art & Design’s Webb wins U of M award for advising

Associate professor of Art History Jennifer Webb has been honored with the John Tate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising for her commitment to creating a students-first culture and her work as an advisor, mentor, and role model for students at the University of MInnesota Duluth (UMD).

“What I love most about my job is working with our incredible students inside and outside of the classroom,” Dr. Webb said. “It's an honor to receive this recognition and I'm grateful for all the support over the years.”

For almost two decades, Webb has served as a faculty member and advisor to students of the Department of Art & Design, part of UMD’s College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences (CAHSS).

“Jennifer is a deeply knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated advisor whose guidance empowers our students at UMD,” David Short, department head of Art & Design and associate professor of Graphic Design, said. “Her unwavering support and mentorship improve the Department of Art & Design, fostering growth, confidence, and success in all who seek her insights."

Webb’s work at UMD is related to art, architecture and culture of Renaissance Italy.  She teaches courses on Ancient, Renaissance, and Baroque art and architecture as well as a class, City as a Work of Art, that explores the diachronic history of Urban Planning.

Webb will be honored in person at an awards ceremony at the 2025 Tate Advising Conference on Thursday, March 6, on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
