Dr. Jian-Jun Chen-Edmund is a Teaching Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She teaches music education courses, class piano, applied piano, and supervises student teachers. Her research areas of interest include assessment in music education, music and language development, diversity and inclusion in music education, and world music.

Dr. Chen-Edmund has authored book chapters for the Handbook of assessment practice and policy in music education and the Oxford handbook of philosophical and qualitative assessment in music education. She has also published in Music Educators Journal, the Second, Fourth, and Fifth International Symposia on Assessment in Music Education Proceedings and the International Journal of Music Education.

Dr. Chen-Edmund received her Ph.D. degree in music education at the University of Florida. She has taught studio piano for 20 years and served as Keyboard Instructor for the Santa Fe College Continuing Education program. In 2007, she earned the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from the University of Florida International Center.

Dr. Chen-Edmund earned her Master of Arts degree in music and music education at Teachers College, Columbia University and a bachelor degree in music performance at Fu Jen University in Taipei, Taiwan. She holds Orff Schulwerk and Kodály certifications and is a member of the International Society for Music Education, Music Teachers National Association, National Association for Music Education, Minnesota Music Educators Association, Minnesota Society for Music Teacher Education, and Duluth Music Teachers Association.

Dr. Chen-Edmund serves as a panelist for the Minnesota State Arts Board and as a piano exam and contest Judge for the Minnesota Music Teacher Association. She has presented her work at internationally, nationally, and regional music education conferences, including the International Symposia on Assessment in Music Education (ISAME), the International Society of Music Education World Conference (ISME), the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), the NAfME National In-Service Conference (NAfME), the Minnesota Music Educators Association Conference (MMEA), the Wisconsin Music Educators Association Conference (WMEA), Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Learning and Teaching, the University of Minnesota Duluth Summit on Equity, Diversity, and Multiculturalism, the Florida Music Educators Association Conference (FMEA), and the University of Florida Site-based Implementation of Teacher Education Program.
