CAHSS Internal Grants

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) provides annual grant opportunities to support development and excellence. These grants are administered by specialized committees that solicit applications and provide formal recommendations to the Dean. 

Beginning in FY27, in the interest of streamlining the grant process, Collegiate Fee grants, Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity grants and Teaching and Learning grants will be awarded one time per year in the fall as opposed to once each semester.

  • Chancellor Small Grants - were previously awarded each semester, up to $1,000. Beginning in FY27, grants will be awarded one time per year in the fall, up to $2,000. 
  • Collegiate Fees and Resources Grants will be awarded one time per year in the fall,         
    • up to $5,000 available for student awards, 
    • up to $10,000 for faculty awards, 
    • $15,000 departmental awards, and the occasional $20,000 award for interdisciplinary awards.
      • (Each department also gets $4,000 in Collegiate Fees topped off annually. This is separate from the Collegiate Fees and Resources grant process.)
  • Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Grants will be awarded one time per year in the fall, up to $1000 for each award. 
  • Teaching and Learning Grants will be awarded one time per year in the fall, up to $1,000 for each award.

Imagine Grants are administered directly through the Dean’s Office. Grants are awarded in the spring of each year, according to the program’s established guidelines, and become effective July 1st of the next fiscal year.

CAHSS Collegiate Fee Grant Program

The Collegiate Fees and Resources Committee welcomes applications for the Grant Program from CAHSS students, faculty and departments. This grant supports technology projects that directly benefit students.

Applications will be accepted at any time during the semester. The Collegiate Fees and Resource Committee typical will review applications once per semester.  Funding of this grant program comes from the CAHSS Collegiate Fees.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The University of Minnesota's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial awards to full-time undergraduates for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty mentor.
