Dr. Justin Rubin is Professor of Music and Chair of the Composition and Theory Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Rubin has released six CDs of his compositions, most recently “The Past is Always With Us – A Composer’s Ruminations at 50” on Yuggoth Records in 2022. His works have been performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Sinfonia, as well as numerous chamber ensembles and soloists throughout the United States and internationally.  

In 2009 he was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers that represents the highest recognition by the University of its most distinguished scholar-teachers.  In 2014 he was additionally honored with the Tezla Teacher/Scholar Award and in 2021 presented the UMD Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Research/Creative Activity.

A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Purchase College (New York), and the University of Arizona, Rubin is also active as a performer on organ and piano.  In this capacity he has recorded for Mode Records, Vandenburg Wave, and Nataraja Records championing contemporary works as well as lesser-known Baroque Iberian composers.
