Dr. Adam Graham joins the University of Minnesota Duluth following an active career as a performer and educator throughout Michigan. Before moving to Duluth, he taught low brass, applied trombone, and academic music courses at Lansing Community College, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Hope College, and the Michigan State University Community Music School.
As a performer, Dr. Graham is the bass trombonist of the Holland Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Lansing, Traverse, Midland, Battle Creek, and West Michigan Symphonies. His freelance work includes orchestral, big band, jazz, chamber, church, and commercial music. He has also performed with the Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra and GROẞE SEEN BIERBAND, West Michigan’s premier polka party band.
A member of the MSU Jazz Trombones, Dr. Graham won the International Trombone Association’s Kai Winding Jazz Ensemble Competition in 2014. In 2025, he performed at the International Trombone Festival as a featured soloist and member of the William Cramer Choir.
Dr. Graham earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Michigan State University and his Bachelor of Music from Grand Valley State University. He looks forward to bringing his experience as an educator, performer, and collaborative musician to the UMD community.
