WLC Holds Annual Talent Show

Apr 3, 2019

WLC students and faculty share music, dance and more.

On Thursday, April 4, students and faculty of the UMD Department of World Languages and Cultures gathered to celebrate the annual department talent show. German Studies professor Kristen Hylenski was the emcee of the show, which featured songs in French, German and Spanish, and poetry in Chinese. French Studies student Jeana Chapman (above) accompanied herself on the ukelele as she sang the Edith Piaf classic "La Vie en Rose," and German students Scott Larson, Travis Black and Kalvin Seidl sang a German folk song "Ade, nun zur guten Nacht" (Farewell and Good Night). Professor Carol Wallace led the audience in a sing-along to Celia Cruz's version of the famous Cuban song "Guantanamera," and Professor Hylenski taught the audience an Austrian folk dance, the Ennstaler Polka. Other contributions included videos of fairy tales created by Professor Holly Brining's intermediate German students, and readings of traditional Chinese poems by Professor Weiqing Zhang's students. The event was a fun opportunity for people from the various department programs to spend time together and share their love of cultures.
