What is COMM Club? Overview, plans, and goals for the semester

For the COMM club, it’s going to be a busy semester. COMM club, short for Communication Club, has many plans, including a LinkedIn workshop for students in April and an alumni panel to connect with COMM graduates.

COMM Club is advised and supported by UMD’s Department of Communication and is a student- and faculty-led organization that focuses on strengthening and applying skills of communication to everyday life. The group also creates career opportunities through networking events, insights, and hands-on experiences.

According to Amber Thomas, current COMM president, this is done with the goal of “fostering a strong sense of community among students and alumni while supporting academic success and professional growth.”

The full list of officers are as follows: President Amber Thomas, Vice President Jenna Sieweert, Event Coordinator Anna Elijah, Marketing Officer Kiernan Laugie, Secretary Rose Stephenson, Community Service Officer Erin Christiansen, and Treasurer Willow Hastings. UMD Communication Department head Communication instructor Brian Matuszak is the club’s advisor.

While the club does not have official meeting times, future events are posted and all UMD students are invited to join to promote skills of connection and career development.

“Through engaging events and collaborative projects, we strive to help members build meaningful relationships and develop essential skills,” Thomas added.

More information on the COMM club and its happenings can be found on the club’s CampusGroups website. Students can also connect with the club through its club page on BulldogConnect. Students can also get connected via Facebook and/or reach out to Thomas via email at [email protected] and Matuszak at [email protected] for additional information.
