Percussion Ensemble performs on FOX 21

Percussion Ensemble director Dr. Ryan Loken and his students were on Fox 21 for a performance and interview.

The UMD Percussion Ensemble is preparing for their final concert of the 2024-2025 academic year in the coming weeks on April 29th, 2025 at 7:30 PM in Weber Music Hall at UMD.

"The UMD Percussion Ensemble rehearses for three hours each week and presents one concert each semester. Their repertoire spans a diverse range of styles — from historically significant pieces and contemporary works to world music and elements of popular music." They brought their marimba to showcase a piece to be played at the concert coming up. They will also be featuring a world premiere of a piece commissioned by Dr. Nick Meyers, titled "Full Tilt."

According to the interview clip, Loken stated: “Percussion instruments can be whatever we can find to make musical sounds. There are tons of available sounds.” The music played will boast to be inventive, interactive and there will be a collaboration with the flute professor, Dr. Paula Gumdundson.

Tickets can be found at tickets.umn.edu.
