Mitchell Gleason: Bachelor of Arts in History, Bachelor of Applied Arts in Teaching Social Studies, 2023

After graduating with Latin honors, I have been working as a substitute teacher in three different school districts [and] hope to receive a full-time social studies teaching position. I was also accepted into a History Master's program through Arizona State University (online) and have successfully completed my first two courses. My Master's degree is expected by the summer of 2025.

I am most proud of my commitment to academic excellence, both at UMD and ASU, and receiving the ability to make a positive impact on so many students' lives in my profession.

The History program at UMD provided multiple opportunities for me to challenge myself academically. All classes helped me expand my knowledge on multiple subjects and experiment with new research and writing techniques. The professors truly care about each student, and I feel that I was more prepared for my Master's program thanks to an excellent education here. I also appreciated the option to double major in both general history and teaching social studies, which will make new graduates like me more competitive in the job market.
