Jazz Studies alum debuts new musical

Congrats to drummer and composer Noah Mercil on the world premiere of "The Dead Memoirs."

Written by K.D. Battle and arranged by Mercil, “The Dead Memoirs,” is a new musical hip-hopera based on the novel The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas

With diverse musical influences and fast-paced storytelling invoking the likes of “Hamilton” and “Hadestown,” the world premiere of “The Dead Memoirs” on November 8, 2024, was greeted with record pre-sales and sold out shows both nights at the Dormouse Theatre in Kalamazoo, MI.

According to a news release, Mercil couldn't be happier with the debut: “I was awestruck by the reaction to our undead Brazilian bash. Getting to hear the music come to life and see folks experience our passion-fueled performance was outstanding and I cannot thank our community enough for helping us actualize this minor miracle.”
