Hailey Eidenschink: Bachelor of Arts in History, Anthropology Minor, Museum Studies Certificate, 2019

Since graduating, I have been working at the St. Louis County Depot here in Duluth. With PBS North, I act as the host of Minnesota Historia, a documentary series that focuses on quirky and off-kilter history throughout Minnesota.

I started my Depot career in the collections department for the St. Louis County Historical Society, but I'm now working for Depot Management. I'm also an extension educator for the University of Minnesota, and my unique role allows me to develop both museum programming and 4-H programming for youth. I also develop and deliver tours at the Depot and help to create history-focused marketing.

In addition, I freelance with our local PBS affiliate, PBS North. With PBS North, I act as the host of Minnesota Historia, a documentary series that focuses on the quirky and off-kilter history throughout Minnesota. The accomplishment that I'm most proud of since graduating are the three Emmy wins that Minnesota Historia received for our 2023 season. One of these was awarded for the writing on our "Mr. Magoo the Mongoose" episode, an episode that I helped write and research!

The History and Museum Studies programs at UMD gave me the real world experience that truly sets you apart in the field of public history. I interned at the Depot and made connections with staff that contributed to being hired in my current role, and my internship in Dublin at the Irish Labour History Society gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and trust in my abilities. My professors in the department were incredibly helpful, offered great advice, and emphasized the importance of robust research. I use the skills I gained as a history major every single day!
