It was a lively afternoon of networking and career exploration for students to connect directly with communication and media professionals to learn about internship opportunities and hear firsthand from alumni about their career paths. Featured speakers included Samantha Erkkila (Entrepreneur Fund), Lukas Lorenz (University of Minnesota Athletics), and Alyvia Taylor (KTTC-TV Rochester), who shared insights from journalism, athletics communications, and broadcasting. Students also heard from UMD Career Center Director Jill Kolodzne who highlighted resources available through her office to support their internship search. It was another successful turnout that highlights the journalism program’s strong community ties that supports UMD students.
The Journalism Program in the Department of Communication hosted roughly 20 media professionals from local newspapers, television stations, online publishers, and more for its annual Media Expo on September 18 in the Garden Room.
