Personal Statement

I attended UMD myself as an undergraduate, and my last year at UMD I did a reporter internship at KBJR News in Duluth for nine months. After that I went to the University of Wisconsin-Superior and did my masters work focusing on analyzing verbal and nonverbal messages in television and movies. I started my teaching career at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in the Fall of 1999 and started teaching at UMD in the Spring of 2000. I really love teaching and the students that I teach and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I was born and raised in Duluth and live in the Pike Lake area. When I am not teaching I enjoy camping, fishing, gardening, traveling, going to my kids sporting events, volunteering at their school, and other outdoor activities with my family. My family keeps me very busy, which consists of my husband, Jim, who is an Art Teacher in Duluth, and my three children.
