Glenn C. Nelson Ceramics Collection

A professor of art at UMD from 1956-75, Nelson authored six editions of The Potter's Handbook and acquired studio ceramic art from around the world, which he donated to the Museum in 1991. Glenn Nelson left a bequest of funds to Tweed Museum to be used for purchasing ceramics for the collection. The fund is designated as the Glenn C. Nelson Ceramics Purchase Fund, and art by national and international ceramicists have been purchased annually for the collection from that fund.

Works in the Glenn C. Nelson Ceramics Collection and purchased through The Glenn C. Nelson Ceramics Purchase Fund feature these artists:

  • Peter Voulkos
  • Shoji Hamada
  • Rudy Autio
