ALIENS!
BURIAL GROUNDS!
DYSTOPIAN FUTURES!
BERRY-PICKING??
Like reading science fiction? Horror? Dystopian climate fiction?
Have you always wondered what it would be like to write a story?
In AMIN 3630 - Native New Worlds, explore how Native American writers stake a claim to these popular genres, ones that have horribly stereotyped Native peoples, and transform them into compelling Native-centered stories.
Write genre fiction and explore the ways you can use genre tropes and plot expectations, to both critique and transform the role of Native characters. No writing experience necessary. All you need is a desire to try something new and creative.
Taught by novelist and professor Carter Meland, AMIN 3630 fulfills the Cultural Diversity and Humanities Lib Eds and counts toward the Creative Writing certificate.
Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:15. Spring semester 2027.
