Personal Statement

My primary research focuses on addressing contemporary political challenges. Presently, I am
conducting studies that tackle the pressing issue of political violence support and engagement in
America, with a unique emphasis on exploring perceptions and affective polarization. I am
dedicated to further pursuing this path by delving into other issues and investigating how
affective polarization and individuals’ moral appeals/violations influence their participation in
democratic backsliding. I am also pursuing a secondary line of research to understand how social
issues are increasingly perceived as existential threats, given the rise in securitizing narratives in
the post2020 presidential election landscape.

I teach “COMM3310 Research Assistant” and welcome all majors who are interested in learning
and collaborating on surveys/experiments in the field of political communication. In Spring2024,
I am leading a study with two undergrads focusing on the issue of partisan gerrymandering. Feel
free to reach out if you would like to know more about this course.
