Enrolling in the Right Course
This table provides you with suggested courses based on your language background. If you have any additional questions concerning what course you should take, please contact a Spanish instructor for more information. Native and heritage speakers of Spanish should also consult the department about appropriate placement.

3. If it has been five or more years since you have taken Spanish in high school, enroll in SPAN 1101 (Beginning Spanish I), unless you feel that you remember enough to take a higher level.
4. If you have taken a Spanish course for college credit, whether in high school, at a community college or another university, you should take the next higher course from the level you previously studied.
Culture/Literature
Students normally follow Span 2301 with upper division 3xxx and 4xxx literature and culture courses.
You are always welcome to talk with Spanish professors about course placement, majoring or minoring in Spanish programs, study abroad and internship options, among other topics. Their offices are easy to find on the 4th floor of the Humanities building. Stop by anytime!
